With our Government Test on Monday, I will be opening up Homework Club on Monday morning at 8 am.

Government Test

We will be having our Government Unit Test on Monday.  Below are the items that may be included on the test:

• Types of Government- Monarchy, Dictatorship, Democracy, Constitutional Monarchy
• Being a Canadian Citizen- Charter of Rights and Freedoms, BNA Act, Citizen's Rights, Responsibilities of Citizens, Becoming A Citizen
• Levels of Government
• Municipal- Structure of Government, Services, Council, Bylaws
• Provincial- Structure of Government (Legislative, Executive, Judicial), Services, Elections
• Federal- Structure of Government- Judicial Branch --> Courts
• Legislative- House of Commons, Senate
• Executive- Governor General, Prime Minister, Services
• Elections- campaigns, platform, political parties

• How Laws Are Made

December Gameplan

With December here already we are down to only three weeks left before the holidays.  Below is what we are going to be doing in class over the next couple of weeks:

Math Test

Our Data Management test will be on Monday, December 2nd.  The following lessons that have been taught will be covered on the test:

• Interpreting Data
• Mean, Medain & Mode
• Bar Graphs
• Line Graphs
• Interpreting Survey Results
• Bias in Displaying Data

Review questions  #1-6 on pg 188-189 have been assigned.  Also, there are additional questions available in the Math Homework Book (Unit 5) and IXL ( Lessons for this test are found under the letter P)

Homework Club

There will be homework club on Wednesday mornings at 8 am for students who need help completing work or have questions about previous lessons.  All students are welcome to attend.  On days of major tests additional times may open up.

With our Math Test being on Monday I will have our first Homework Club on Monday morning.

November Already

With Halloween a thing of the past and the frost on the grass in the morning we are clearly in November.  Thank you to everyone who sent in snacks, drinks, decorations or helped to put together a mystery bucket for our class party last week.

Marlies Game: Forms Due Monday

Dr. Grant sent home a permission form this week for the Marlies game that the grade 5 students are singing O Canada at.  This is just a reminder that all of the forms need to be returned by Monday, October 28th.

We are going to have our Whole Numbers test on Tuesday, September 24th.  We will be looking at how to solve multi-step problems today and review questions will be assigned.

The following items will be covered on the test:

• Representing and Ordering Numbers (standard form, expanded form, number form, ordering,etc)
• Adding up to 4 digit numbers and 3 number addition
• Subtracting 4 digit numbers
• Multiplication and Division Facts up to 12s
• Multiplying 2 digit numbers
• Long Division
• Multi-step Problems

Review Questions that will help students prepare for the test are on pages 74-75 #1-16

Week Of September 16th

It is hard to believe that we have been at school for only two weeks now.  With the crazy changes in weather, it feels like we have already been at school for a couple of season changes.  Below is what we are going to be focusing on in class next week:

Treasure Chest

Last week students were given a handout for their Treasure Chest.  All students are to bring in their collections on Monday, September 23rd.   Presentations will be ongoing throughout the week and will be brought home on Friday, September 27th.

Curriculum Night

Curriculum night at LKS is on September 10th.  There is a school assembly and teacher introductions at 6:30 in the gym and then the Grade 5 parents will be heading to room 122 at 7:00.  Hope to see you there.

Back To School

We are back to school for another exciting year.  Hopefully everyone was able to manage the heat and enjoy their summer.  It is hard to believe that we are already to start up a new year.  This is our class blog that we will be using throughout the year.  There will be postings about assignments, projects and upcoming events at LKS.  In addition to that there will be useful links to websites that will help out with what we are learning in class.

My goal is to update the blog every week to give you an idea of what to expect in the classroom.  If you are unsure of any assignments or work that has come home the best way to get a hold of me is via email, which is on the handout that is coming home today.

I look forward to an amazing Grade 5 year!!
